Morning Box Score: Cubs Bats Lift Off in Houston

By Chuck Sudo in News on Apr 14, 2011 2:30PM

The Cubs got off to a fast start in Houston last night, tagging Astros starter Wandy Rodriguez for five runs, capped by a three-run home run by Alfonso Soriano. That was enough for Carlos Zambrano to claim his tenth consecutive win dating back to last August in the Cubs' 9-5 win, but just barely. Zambrano gave up five runs in 5-2/3 innings, but his solo home run in the top of the sixth inning provided the margin to earn the victory. It was Zambrano's 22nd home run of his career, extending his Cubs record for home runs by a pitcher.

Starlin Castro is producing results in the leadoff spot, as well. The shortstop went 3-for-5 at the plate to raise his batting average to .389.
