Pig & Swig at El Cid #2

By Caitlin Klein in Food on Apr 18, 2011 6:00PM

Every third Sunday of the month, El Cid #2 in Logan Square is hosting a "pig & swig." The special of the day is pork, roasted in-house, which you can get in a taco or torta. We are suckers for pigmeats of all varieties and events with rhyming names, so you can bet we showed up to the first roast. These Sunday afternoon pig roasts will run at the Kedzie location from April to September.

El Cid #2 is already a popular Logan Square joint due to its cheap beers (drafts for $3), good food, and margaritas in a rainbow of different flavors. There is a patio out back for eating in kinder weather, and the prices are quite reasonable. Tacos are $1.95, although a special roasted pork taco at pig & swig will run you $2.45. Some of the food platters are more expensive, but they make up for it with $4.95 margaritas.

The special roasted pork is succulent and tender. It is seasoned, but not too salty. The special taco comes with black beans, cilantro, onions, and a small wedge of lime. We recommend the corn tortilla over the flour - it is soft, slightly chewy, and perfect with the roasted pork. El Cid is a neighborhood favorite, and we can see why; the service was friendly, the food was quick, and everyone in the place seemed to be enjoying themselves. Our only gripe was that the draft beer was flat. Shoulda got a tamarind margarita... we knew it. Next time.

El Cid #2 recommends reservations for the monthly events. We had no trouble getting a table, but as the months grow warmer and spots on the patio become harder to come by, it wouldn't be a bad idea. Remaining dates are:

May 15th
June 19th
July 17th
August 21st
September 18th

El Cid #2 is located at 2645 N. Kedzie Ave.
