Morning Box Score: Reversals of Fortune for Cubs, White Sox

The theme for this year's White Sox marketing campaign is "all in," referring to Gm Kenny Williams offseason spending spree to build a well-rounded title contender> So far this season, the Sox have been well rounded. The bullpen blew a few early games, now it's the brawny lineup's turn to go cold. The White Sox bats remained silent in a 5-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Edwin Jackson pitched seven innings of 11 hit ball in taking his first loss of the season. He also was tagged with four of the Rays five runs. Rays outfielder Sam Fuld was lights out at the plate last night with a perfect 4-for-4 night. The White Sox lineup, however, was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left 7 men on base. The news isn't getting any better for the Sox. Jake Peavy left a rehab start after fifteen pitches yesterday with shoulder discomfort. HIs status will be re-evaluated today.
Over at frigid Wrigley Field, the Cubs and Padres put on a pitching duel before Tyler Colvin's pinch-hit RBI double in the 10th inning sent the remaining Wrigley faithful home happy (and possibly frostbitten) with a 1-0 victory. Carlos Zambrano and Tim Stauffer flummoxed hitters most of the night before turning things over to their respective bullpens. Zambrano lasted eight innings, allowing three hits and striking out ten. With the no decision, his winning streak remains intact at ten games. Zambrano also showed signs of finally getting it, changing speeds when he needed to en route to those 10 strikeouts, most of which were swinging K's.
