Morning Box Score: No Run Support for Danks, White Sox Lose Again

The White Sox were looking to John Danks to be the stopper last night. And Danks pitched well, surrendering two runs over seven innings last night at Tropicana Field. But the White Sox bats remained asleep and Danks took the loss in a 2-1 Rays victory. Rays starter Scott James Shields went the distance, striking out 9 and allowing only four hits.
This White Sox lineup, built on power, is going to be feast or famine. After tearing up pitching in Cleveland and Kansas City, the Sox couldn't hit the backside of a barn right now, leading to the requisite arm chair quarterbacking from sports talk radio hosts. As of post time, Dan McNeil on WSCR is wondering if this is the best the slumping Gordon Beckham will ever get. 17 games is too soon to throw in a towel, but with the spending spree Kenny Williams went on in the offseason, the Sox have brought it on themselves.
