Cardinal George Suspends Pfleger

In the ongoing territorial pissings between Cardinal Francis George and Rev. Michael Pfleger over Pfleger's future at the Auburn Gresham church, George has suspended Pfleger from his ministry and barred him from performing Catholic sacraments. The two have discussed Pfleger's future in recent weeks, with Pfleger refusing to accept a transfer to Leo High School. Pfleger has said that he would rather leave the Catholic Church than accept a transfer anywhere else.

Cardinal George contradicts Pfleger in a letter (read here in PDF Format), contending that Pfleger does not wish to remain at St. Sabina and that "it was clear that there was no other assignment that would make equally good use of your talents in ministry and that it would also be difficult to find another pastor to take up your ministry at St. Sabina's with comparable fervor." George then adds the rebuke, "If that is truly your attitude, you have already left the Catholic Church and therefore not able to pastor a Catholic parish."
