Baseball Box Score: Sox Beat Yanks Again

By Chuck Sudo in News on Apr 27, 2011 5:40PM

It appears as though James Russell's days as the Cubs' fifth starter may be numbered after last night's 4-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies at Wrigley Field. Russell gave up two solo home runs to Todd Helton and another to Ty Wigginton to earn the loss. Russell has an 8.31 ERA and is 1-3 on the season, which may be enough for manager Mike Quade to give Russell a skip in the rotation and maybe look at (shudder) Jeff Samardzija in a spot start. The Cubs are getting set to close out this series with the Rockies today, with Jeff Baker batting third in the lineup.

Meanwhile, the White Sox can at least be content that they can beat the Yankees after last night's 3-2 win in the Bronx. But they needed a diving Brent Lillibridge catch in the ninth inning to do it. Lillibridge had web gems against Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano with runners on base to preserve Gavin Floyd's third win of the season and get Sergio Santos his second save of the year. Paul Konerko's two-run home run in the eighth inning parovided the margin of victory. Mark Buehrle takes to mound tonight, looking for his 150th victory.
