Baseball Box Score: Cubs Beat D-Backs, Sox Still Struggle

By Angie Wiatrowski in News on Apr 30, 2011 2:00PM

Cubs 4, Diamondbacks 2

After being roughed up in his previous start, giving up 6 runs in 5 innings to the Dodgers, his first loss in 18 starts, Carlos Zambrano bounced back in a 4-2 Cubs victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday.

Winning his ninth straight road start, Zambrano gave up just 3 hits in 5 innings. He definitely had run support as Alfonso Soriano hit a pair of leadoff home runs and Geovany Soto had a solo homerun. Soriano has 27 career multi-homerun games.

The Cubs continue their series in Arizona Saturday.

White Sox 4, Orioles 10

It seems as though things are just getting worse and worse for the White Sox, and actually they pretty much are and it's almost hard to watch. The South Siders sunk to 10-17 overall and lost their 13th in the last 16 games vs. the Baltimore Orioles Friday night. Pitcher John Danks took the 10-4 loss on the mound.

"It's frustrating, there's no other word for it," Danks told reporters. Frustrating is right, that stellar opening week is now a thing of the past. Danks fell 0-4 after giving up 5 earned runs on 8 hits.

Catcher A.J. Pierzynski hit a two-run home run and Brent Lillibridge hit his second home run. It was another multi-homer game for the Sox with nothing to show for it. Baltimore sent 11 batters to the plate in a five-run seventh inning and the slump continues for the struggling Sox, who will try to avoid a four-game losing streak and continue their series vs. the Orioles Saturday night.
