Cubs 5, Diamondbacks 3
Alfonso Soriano hit his 10th home run to help Matt Garza in his first Cubs win vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3 Saturday. Garza gave up 3 runs on 6 hits with 10 strikeouts and 2 walks over a season-best 8 innings. Carlos got his seventh save after a hitless ninth inning.
It was a night of firsts as Cubs manager Mike Quade received his first career ejection. Quade argued with second base umpire Dan Bellino who then objected him after a close call on the bases. Marlon Byrd was at first, Geovany Soto bunted that was caught by Diamondback's shortstop Stephen Drew whose toe was barely kept on the bag.
In the end it was Darwin Barney who gave the Cubs a leg up. He singled up the middle to score Soto in the to of the ninth for the win. The Cubs will wrap up their series vs. the Diamondbacks Sunday.
White Sox 2, Orioles 6
Ouch what's happened on the South Side? You sure you want to know? Well, at least a record was set as the White Sox took another loss dropping 6-2 to the Baltimore Orioles Saturday. They are now 14-17 and finished April 10-18, the most losses in April in franchise history. I guess if you're going to be bad, might as well be good at it, right?
The Sox have dropped four straight, despite a solid outing from Phil Humber. Humber gave up 3 hits and 2 runs in 7 innings. Adam Dunn got his first start at first base, but still can't produce at the plate. He has been 7-for-61 in his previous 17 games and went 1-for-4 Saturday night.
Alex Rios hit his first home run of the season in the ninth inning to make the score 6-2 but that was the end of that. The Sox hope for some sort of rebound as they continue a four-game set vs. Baltimore Sunday.
