Afternoon Box Score: White Sox End Homestand From Hell With Loss [Updated with Cubs Win]

By Chuck Sudo in News on May 4, 2011 9:20PM

At least the White Sox were able to hit the ball today. Too bad it wasn't enough to get John Danks his first win of the season as the Sox closed out a 1-5 homestand with a 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins. Danks had another quality start, giving up all three runs in eight innings of work. But it was the defense that failed him in the sixth inning when both Mark teahan and Paul Konerko broke to field a bunt from Matt Tolbert, allowing Tolbert to reach safely while advancing Denard Span to second. Span later scored on a Jason Kubel sacrifice fly. The White Sox have been unable to do any two things - pitching, hitting and fielding - right this season. And that's why they're at the bottom of the AL Central standings.

Alex Rios homered for the White Sox and Konerko added a sacrifice fly to account for the Sox' scoring.

Cubs 5, Dodgers 1

Carlos Pena, Marlon Byrd and Geovany Soto each hit home runs to provide the offense, while Carlos Zambrano fooled the Dodgers lineup for eight innings as the Cubs take two of three from Los Angeles.
