2011_5_5_GABS.jpg The Butcher and Larder will be the setting for one of the largest bake sales the city has ever seen Saturday with Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale. from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. bakeries, restaurants and pastry chefs from all over the city including Balsan, Hoosier Mama, Big Jones, Floriole, City Provisions, Food For Thought Catering and Xmarx are donating delicious desserts for this great cause event. It's one of many sales being held under the Great American Bake Sale banner, but certainly the one with the most chef firepower behind it.

There will also be a raffle at Butcher and Larder, and an online auction is now running where you can bid on such prizes as a seven course tour for two with drink pairings and a three course brunch for two with pairings at Big Jones; a dinner and theater package featuring an off menu dinner for two by Andrew Brochu of Kith & Kin with wine pairings by Freddy Brown of Fine Vines, and two tickets to Steppenwolf Theatre; private access to a four-course dinner with pairings cooked by executive chef Breanna Beike at the Columbia Yacht Club on the bow of the boat; and a special menu for two created by Kristine Subido of Wave, with a case of wine including (among others) 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape, Arroyo Valley Pinot Noir, Turley Zinfandel, Six sigma Sauvignon Blanc, Stag's Leap Artimus, and Feuillatte Palms d'Or champagne. The night concludes with transportation to Navy Pier, and two tickets to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
