Weekend Dance Party: Dollar Disco

By Jake Guidry in Arts & Entertainment on May 5, 2011 8:40PM

hc_img.jpg This weekend Smart Bar's got a nice, stacked set of shows to keep the dancer in you going strong. Tomorrow Metro Area will spin, along with support from our friend Olin. On Saturday, resident techno-guru Justin Long will be pulling a 6+ hour marathon set, which in and of itself is impressive. But it's Sunday's Dollar Disco that's got us most excited. Local electro-pop outfit Hey Champ, who just advanced us a track off their forthcoming EP, will headline, and residents Michael Serafini, Kid Color and Adulture will provide the backdrop. It is our pick for Weekend Dance Party.

Dollar Disco has been a staple in the club scene for the past year, and this Sunday's appearance by Hey Champ will be a proper example of why things are only going up for this young weekly. Hey Champ have been carving up Chicago for a minute now, and signs point to national attention in the near future. And, per usual, one can always expect a healthy of dose of excellent funk, disco and boogie from Dollar Disco's diverse residents.

Dollar Disco is Sunday, Smart Bar, 3730 N Clark, 10 p.m., $2, 21+
