Tomorrow's the first Saturday of May, and any comic book fan knows what that means. It's comic book Christmas, a.k.a. Free Comic Book Day, a.k.a. FCBD, when stores nationwide give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their shops. Publishers provide the comic books, so this isn't bad for business. In fact, it's great for these local shops because it'll bring more people in the door. So stop buy and grab a free comic, and maybe buy one, too! The 2011 free Gold Comics include Amazing Spiderman, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Green Lantern: Secret Origin. Below are the participating Chicagoland shops (if you know of any more, please let us know in the comments and we'll add them to the post):

Brainstorm Movies, Comics & Gaming: 1648 W. North Ave. "Anyone — adults and kids — can come and get three free comic books. Selections are branded with the Free Comic Book Day logo and will be available while quantities last. There will be a storewide sale on toys, comics and more! There will also be local comic creator appearances throughout the day. Additional grab bag gifts will be available for the kids!"

Vigilante Press: 1931 W. Chicago Ave. "Vigilante is proud to present our annual Free Comic Book Day fiesta! If you're free this Saturday (even if you're not) drop in and score some free samples of new & noteworthy titles! Comics are on a first-come-first-serve basis, so if you're really aching for a certain title, get here early! We'll be open starting at noon."
