Morning Box Score: Sox Snap Skid in Shutout over Mariners

By Angie Wiatrowski in News on May 8, 2011 2:00PM

White Sox 6, Mariners 0

Looks like the moaning and groaning can come to an end; for now. The Chicago White Sox went from not being able to muster more than four runs to holding the Seattle Mariners scoreless in a 6-0 win Saturday night.

Gavin Floyd held Seattle to just 3 singles in 8 innings, striking out 6 and walking 2. All the magic happened in the bottom of the third as the White Sox batting order went 10 for 12. Alex Rios, Gordon Beckham, and Brent Morel combined to score 4 runs. Rios was 4-for-4 and Adam Dunn had two hits and two RBIs. Is the sleeping giant ready to be woken?

Mariners starter Doug Fister took the loss, giving up 5 runs and 14 hits. The Mariners have been shutout three times this season and this was the South Siders’ second shutout.

The Sox will wrap up their series in Seattle Sunday afternoon before heading to Los Angeles.
