Morning Box Score: Wakefield Knuckles Cubs

By Chuck Sudo in News on May 23, 2011 2:30PM

Red Sox 5, Cubs 1

At least the Cubs got to play at Fenway Park. Too bad the Red Sox took two of three from them. Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield had the Cubs guessing for 6.2 innings, while James Russell gave up a two-run triple to Kevin Youkilis and a solo home run to Jarrod Saltalamacchia as Boston won the first visit by the Cubs to Fenway since interleague play began in 1997. The Cubs are limping to New York to take on the Mets with some questions about team health. Matt Garza's start last night was scratched for James Russell. Jeff Baker, who drove in the Cubs only run last night, left the game in the seventh inning with a strained left groin. And Marlon Byrd, who was beaned in the face by a Alfredo Aceves pitch Saturday night, was placed on the 15-day DL with multiple facial fractures.
