Morning Box Score: Rain Hastens Cubs Woes

Anyone watching last night's game from Wrigley Field would have left with the feeling that if Mike Quade could have stopped the tarp from being rolled out early by laying down at the pitcher's mound, he would have. The Cubs' manager gave the umpires an earful last night after they called the game due to last night's storms.
"I just wanted to keep playing," Quade said. "If we get that final out [in the seventh], stranger things have happened. It's wet out there, and you put an inning together and who knows? Maybe you get even or find a way to get a lead." We're surprised the game wasn't called sooner. Casey Coleman couldn't hold onto a 4-1 lead given to him after one inning, surrendering five runs in the Mets' half of the second. The starting pitching three-fifths of the Cubs' starting rotation are on the DL is a major area of concern.
The Cubs and Mets are scheduled for a day game today. We'll see if the weather cooperates.
