The Soundtrack Of Our Lives Still Soundtracking Lives

One of our more memorable concert experiences was seeing Sweden's The Soundtrack Of Our Lives at Double Door years ago and witnessing the bearish frontman Ebbot Lundberg actually get everyone to lay down on the floor and then jump up dancing Isley Bros-Shout stylee. The feat was amazing because (a) in that moment we realized that Lundberg had the kind of charisma that is so mesmerizing you can't help but fall obediently under his thrall and (b) Double Door's floor was filthy and people didn't care a whit, thus really underscoring point (a).
The band has been around for over 15 years and in the U.S. they've always had a pretty fervent, if small, following. Their albums, artfully crafted pieces of arena rock mixed with '60-tinged psychedelia, have always held solid spots in our music library. They rarely make it to Chicago but when they do their shows are always memorable affairs, equal parts religious revival and shamanistic orgy. So we recommend you get out of the house and trek to Martyrs' tomorrow night when this under heralded Swedish juggernaut rolls into town.
TSOOL did seem poised to break on through to more mainstream acceptance in the early aughts with the rousing anthem "Sister Surround," so let's revisit that tune to get folks in the mood for their show tomorrow night.
The Soundtrack Of Our Lives plays tomorrow, June 3, at Martyrs', 3855 N Lincoln, 8:30 p.m., $18.50, 21+
