Paul Konerko was a scratch after having surgery to remove a bone fragment from his left wrist and the Sox were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position through the first three innings, but Carlos Quentin gave Mark Buehrle some room to breathe with a three-run home run in the fourth inning to pace the White Sox to a much needed win over an AL Central rival. Juan Pierre hit his first home run of the year for the White Sox, who finished 2-for-12 with RISP.
Meanwhile, in St. Louis, Ryan Dempster came back down to earth a little, giving up home runs to Albert Pujols and Lance Berkman, and a makeshift Cubs lineup made Jaime Garcia look like a world beater as the Cardinals made easy work of the north siders.
