Morning Box Score: Dunn Homers, Cubs Win in Extras

By Chuck Sudo in News on Jun 10, 2011 2:11PM

White Sox 9, A's 4

The White Sox creeped ever closer to the .500 mark with some classic performances from Mark Buehrle and Paul Konerko last night. Buehrle scattered seven hits over seven innings, while Konerko jacked a two-run shot late in the game to cap a 15 hit Sox attack. Adam Dunn, whose last home run came when there was still a chill in the air, got untracked with an opposite field two-run tater in the third inning.

Cubs 4, Phillies 3 (11 Innings)

Cubs fans who stayed up late to catch last night's game were rewarded with a win when Tyler Colvin scored on a Placido Polanco throwing error with two outs in the 11th inning. Colvin thought he had the game won for the Cubs with a home run in the ninth, but it was overturned by the umpires. The Cubs bullpen wound up being the MVP of last night's game, pitching 8-2/3 innings of shutout innings after play resumed following a rain delay. Sean Marshall picked up the win and Carlos Marmol locked down the victory with his 12th save.
