2011_6_nightbeat.jpg Here at Chicagoist we're huge fans of Sam Cooke. To us it just seems like a no-brainer that Cooke of all the Chicago musicians who have honorary street designations a long time ago. But he hasn't.

Until now.

On 2 p.m. Saturday, that gets corrected. 36th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue becomes "Honorary Sam Cooke Way." That's the area of Bronzeville that served as Cooke's formative years and where he first started honing his musical talents with the Soul Stirrers and Highway QCs. We may have to keep the neighbors awake blasting "Night Beat" in celebration.
