Morning Box Score: Twins Still Have Sox' Number

By Chuck Sudo in News on Jun 16, 2011 2:30PM

Twins 4, White Sox 1

So let's see if we understand this. The Twins were without Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, Jim Thome and Jason Kubel and still beat the White Sox? That's right. The "Piranhas," as Ozzie Guillen lovingly refers to Minnesota, received timely hits from Michael Cuddyer and Delmon Young and played stellar defense, while Carl Pavano worked fast on the mound and went the distance in a pitching duel with Gavin Floyd. It was the Twins' sixth straight win against the Sox and ninth in their last ten games head to head. The two teams square off again this afternoon (12:10 p.m., CSN, WSCR-AM).

Brewers 9, Cubs 5

Schoolhouse Rock taught us that three is a magic number. Three was unlucky for the Cubs last night as they lost a slugfest against the Brewers at Wrigley Field. Reed Johnson hit a three-run home run and Jeff Baker had a solo shot but it wasn't enough as Carlos Zambrano was tagged for five runs and nine hits over six innings in earning the loss. The Cubs still have a shot at a series win when they take the field against Milwaukee this afternoon (1:20 p.m., WGN-TV, WGN-AM 720).
