One of the more unusual pleasures of getting older (well, alright, at least getting in shooting distance of 30) is discovering how the music of your formative years actually holds up. Those fans who spent their musical youth reveling in the teenage dramas of Champaign-Urbana emo/post-hardcore quartet Braid can now find out for themselves if the group has aged like fine wine, or a less palatable substance.
Last week, the band announced their first original material in 10 years, an EP titled Closer To Closed. The four-track set, produced by J. Robbins, is set to hit stores on August 16. First single "The Right Time", sung by guitarist-vocalist Chris Broach, was premiered by Alternative Press.
The jaunty, Dismemberment Plan-like tune has now found its way on YouTube, though you can also download and stream the track through Polyvinyl Records. No matter your online poison, you can find out if the Braid gents still have it. Closer To Closed releases on August 16. On August 27, the band plays the Metro.
