Morning Box Score: Differing Results in Crosstown Classic Tuneups

By Chuck Sudo in News on Jun 20, 2011 2:34PM

White Sox 6, Diamondbacks 2

The Crosstown Classic kicks off tonight at Wrigley Field and the White Sox must be feeling good heading back to Chicago. Phillip Humber pitched another stellar game, going 7-2/3 innings and fanning five, Paul Konerko homered for the third straight game and Alex Rios homered in back-to-back games to pace the White Sox at Chase Field. Even with the eight runs scored, however, the Sox still hit 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Yankees 10, Cubs 4

The Cubs hung tough with the Yankees until the eighth inning when Nick Swisher hit a three-run homer off of Sean Marshall to give the Bronx Bombers a series win at Wrigley Field. Alfonso Soriano hit a three-run shot of his own for the Cubs, but stupid plays like Starlin Castro taking his foot off the base too soon on a forceout in the fourth inning allowed the Yankees to stay in this game.

Benjy will have a preview of Cubs-Sox later.
