Morning Box Score: White Sox Lose Marathon, Cubs Feast on Royals

It was a night of weird calls for both the Cubs and White Sox last night.
In Kansas City, Tony Campana was ruled safe on a bunt that was ruled to have hit the ground. that call proved to be pivotal as Royals second baseman Chris Getz later misplayed a Kosuke Fukodome grounder, allowing Campana to score what proved to be the winning run. Starlin Castro was 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Cubs. With 102 hits, Castro also became the first Cub since Derrek Lee to tally 100 hits before the end of June.
The White Sox and Washington played for nearly five hours before an Alexei Ramirez throwing error opened the floodgates and the Nationals tagged Matt Thornton for four runs and the loss. The White Sox fought to put this into extra innings. Mark Teahan, playing for Paul Konerko (who was pulled for a pinch runner), hit a three run shot to send the game to extras. After the Nationals took a one run lead in the 12th, AJ Pierzynski hit a home run to continue the battle. The Sox will need a quality start from John Danks today as they went through the entire bullpen last night.
