Morning Box Score: Peavy Picks Up Danks

The last thing the White Sox needed after Friday's 14-inning marathon was an injury to a pitcher. But Brian Bruney put in 2-1/3 innings of gutsy relief work after John Danks had to be pulled after 26 pitches with a strained oblique muscle. Bruney turned the game over to Jake Peavy, who pitched four solid innings to pick up the win. Carlos Quentin's sacrifice fly turned out to be the only run the Sox needed, with Ramon Castro providing insurance with a two-run single. Sergio Santos earned his 15th save of the season.
Royals second baseman Chris Getz, the goat in Friday night's Cubs win, reached first on a infield single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, allowing Jeff Francouer to score the winning run. Cubs reliever Jeff Samardzija, who took the loss, couldn't field Getz's hit, forcing Starlin Castro to make a strong throw at first that Getz beat out. Get's RBi wasted a gut-it-out seven innings of work from Carlos Zambrano, who allowed 8 hits. Aramis Ramirez and Geovany Soto hit back-to-back homers in the sixth inning for the Cubs.
