Quinn Signs Pared-Down Budget Hours Before Deadline

Governor Pat Quinn surprised many last night when he signed in the 2012 budget just hours before the midnight deadline. Quinn introduced a $36 billion budget in February, then state lawmakers cut a few billion out. Then last night Quinn threw in $376 million more budget cuts of his own.

But on Thursday, the governor shaved even more from state spending, including $89 million from a school transportation reimbursement fund and $276 from Medicaid, which will impact hospitals and nursing homes who rely on the state to help pay for low-income patients.
