Wrigleyville Pizzeria Marks Out With Wrestling-Themed Pizzas

Natalie Slater of Bake and Destroy Fame (check out our 2008 profile of her) is in the process of wrapping up her "Sugarslam 2011" contest. The wrestling-themed baking competition is open for all baked goods, from cakes and pies to breads and pizzas, from sweet to savory, with a judging panel that includes moto pastry chef Ben Roche and former WWE women's champion Beth Phoenix.

Ian's Pizza in Wrigleyville (3463 N. Clark St., 773-525-4580) has stepped up to the plate for this by baking a series of pizzas inspired by pro wrestlers. One that they're featuring as their special this week is inspired by WWE superstar - and Chicago resident - CM Punk.

The "Go to Sleep" (named after Punk's finishing maneuver: a knee to the face after being dropped from a fireman's carry position) has smoked turkey leg meat from Paulina Meat Market, sliced potatoes, Swiss cheese and French fried onions on a creme fraiche base. It's essentially a hulked-up tarte flambee and it's received a rousing endorsement by Punk.

If you're interested in entering Sugarslam 2011, you have until next Monday, July 11.
