Police have made their first arrest in the mob assault on a man in Boystown last weekend and are crediting the video that garnered national headlines and Facebook with helping make the collar.
24-year-old Darren Hayes of Hammond, IN turned himself in after detectives, acting on an anonymous tip, used the video to match Hayes to photos of him found on facebook. Belmont Area Sgt. Debra DeYoung said if it wasn't for the video they may not have had the leads they have.
Hayes has been charged with three counts of aggravated battery and felony mob action and is reported to be cooperating with authorities.
