As Joshua Mellin reminds us with this photo, kids will play with anything.
We're used to meteorologists being wrong about their forecasts and, while everyone predicted thunderstorms yesterday morning, none predicted the fierce and brief winds that came with it. The Sun-Times reminds us that the definition for yesterday's Squall from Hell is a "derecho."
ComEd is calling yesterday's storm, which as of 7 p.m. yesterday left 860,000 customers without power, the worst since a March 1998 ice storm, the worst storm in over a decade. As of this morning, more than 359,000 customers were still in the dark and it may take several days before power is restored.
If you're in the affected areas, make sure to keep your refrigerator and freezer closed to keep your food cold, maintain a flashlight with you and use your cell phones for emergency use only.
