Jeff Garlin (pictured with Susie Essman and Larry David at the Curb Your Enthusiasm eighth season premiere in New York) returns home with his new show NO SUGAR TONIGHT: An Evening of Stand-Up Comedy. Garlin begins a run at Steppenwolf Upstairs Theatre tonight through July 24. [1650 N. Chicago Roots Collective Showcase XIX gets underway 8 p.m. tonight at Lincoln Hall with The Dirty Pigeons, Jennifer Hall, Derek Bahr and Tim Sheff. Doors for this 18+ show open at 7 and cover is $8.

Hot Dog Eating Contest for Charity

How many hot dogs can you eat in three minutes. Find out tonight at Franklin Tap, which is host to a "Dawgs for Dogs" hot dog eating contest. Benefiting Chicago Canine Rescue, this event also features on-site pet adoption, summer-themed raffle prizes will be awarded, including grills, beach chairs, gift baskets and gift certificates. Imported bottled beers will be $4. (325 S. Franklin, 6 p.m., $25)

Foresight Design Initiative and the Natural Resources Defense Council present "Green Drinks" tonight at the DREAM2O showroom and a surprise second location at the Merchandise Mart. Learn from three experts from the Natural Resources Defense Council on the many water related issues our region will face in the coming years, and enjoy delicious (locally sourced) noshes from City Provisions.
