The Art Institute of Chicago upcoming exhibit Windows on the War: Soviet TASS Posters at Home and Abroad, 1941-1945 is set to debut to the public on July 31. The exhibit collects scores of posters promoting the Soviet World War II effort through TASS, the former USSR's official government-run news agencies.

TASS produced hundreds of posters like these - one for nearly every day the Soviets were involved in the war - for storefront windows. Most of these posters, ranging anywhere from five to ten feet tall, haven't been seen since in close to seventy years.

To help promote the exhibit (which runs through Oct. 23), the Art Institute has set up a Tumblr page that is updated with a new poster regularly. We're struck by the detail of the stencils and the bold colors used in the posters.
