Morning Box Score: Typical Buehrle in KC, Cubs Stun Phillies

By Chuck Sudo in News on Jul 19, 2011 2:35PM

White Sox 5, Royals 2

Few pitchers own the Kansas City Royals like Mark Buehrle. The White Sox southpaw earned his 22nd victory against the Royals last night with seven innings of five-hit ball. The Sox lineup pitched in, staking Buehrle to an early lead and breaking a 2-2- tie in the sixth inning by manufacturing runs and not relying on Paul Konerko to hit a home run.

Cubs 6, Phillies 1

Phillies ace Roy Halladay wilted in the Chicago haze. Halladay gave up three runs and seven hits over four innings, including Aramis Ramirez's 17th home run of the season. Ramirez, the subject of trade rumors as the league deadline approaches, said he would veto any trade as a five-and-ten player. Cubs starter Rodrigo Lopez can tell his grandchildren about the night he handcuffed the Phillies over 6-2/3 innings and Carlos Pena hit his 20th home run for the Cubs.
