DCist got the sad, official word: it’s going to be yet another panda cub-less year at the National Zoo. (Not the best way to end one of the hottest weeks in the city’s history.)
Seattlest observed a fairly varied week, as first we felt a little paranoid at the news that state government was planning on installing surveillance cameras in our state forests. We also celebrated being named in the top three most creative cities in the US (behind Chicago and New York). Finally, we mourned the loss of a man largely responsible for establishing countless cultural institutions in our city: RIP Bagley Wright, aged 87.
Shanghaiist was horrified by a high-speed rail collision that has killed at least 35 and injured over 20.
LAist saw a controversial (and stupid) campaign from dairy producers proclaiming milk as the cure-all for PMS end its run early.
SFist felt a protest over the fatal police shooting of a man was misguided, because the man first shot at the police, prompting their gunfire. And then it turned out the gunman shot himself.
It was a very hot week at Bostonist as days of 90+ degrees turned into a memorable 103 degree day. Bostonist also joined in mourning the loss of Myra Kraft.
Only in New York: Gothamist was amazed by a video of a woman getting into a fight with another subway passenger...while her child rolls out of the train car in her stroller.
Austinist spoke with a bartender who is going to get the city interested in “underdog spirits” like rum and gin.
Chicagoist's readers were very vocal about Mayor Rahm Emanuel's decision to send his children to private school in the fall.
