Musical documentaries are the theme at the Music Box this week with today's launch of their Summer Music Film Festival. The highlight of the festival has to be Wednesday's Midwest premiere of The Swell Season. The documentary follows the duo of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová as their fictional romance from the film Once becomes real and all the attendant highs and lows, personal and professional stresses that that came with the relationship, and how music ultimately allowed the two to find a final common ground.
Another highlight of the festival is Thursday's screening of the Talking Heads doc Stop Making Sense. Nearly 30 years later the film still stands up as one of the best concert films ever and is still our second favorite Jonathan Demme film (next to The Silence of the Lambs). David Byrne's oversized suit from the film became one of the most iconic and parodied images in music. The Sound Opinions team of Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot will be on hand to present Stop Making Sense as part of their music movie series.
