Heshima Kenya is a locally based non-profit devoted to supporting unaccompanied refugee children and youth who have been displaced by war and are living alone in Nairobi. Their education, shelter, and outreach program focus on adolescent girls, including their children, from Somalia, Ethiopia, and DR Congo, empowering them to rebuild their lives and strive for economic-self-sufficiency. Chicago's fashion community gathers together tonight for a fundraiser for Heshima Kenya at Room 1520 (1520 W. Fulton Market). The event will feature beautiful hand-dyed scarves made by the Maisha Collective artisans, all who have been empowered by Heshima Kenya. The event starts at 6 p.m. The $60 admission also gets you Grey Goose cocktails, Finch’s Beer and locally sourced, organic appetizers by Pure Kitchen Catering.
