Joan of Arc plays this Saturday at SummerSonic
The guys over at Experimental Sound Studio are preparing to premiere SummerSonic, a series of garden parties featuring performances by local musicians known for sonic experimentation. The series starts this weekend and runs every other Saturday through August. Sure, that’s only three installments, but they showcase a solid selection of artists.

The series kicks into gear this Saturday with the eccentric indie rock of local legends Joan of Arc and the ridiculously stunning compositions of singer/multi-instrumentalist Azita. Then two weeks later, August 13, the second installment showcases underground psych-rock collective ONO and Wilco's Leroy Bach. The whole thing comes to a close August 27 with sets by The Eternals and Angel Olson.

The performances will take place in ESS’s garden. Each show will also feature a different video by local independent filmmaker James Fotopoulos, which will be screened inside the studio within earshot of the music. By the way, check out ESS’s site for some of the other nifty stuff they’ve got going on.

SummerSonic’s first installment is Saturday, July 30 at Experimental Sound Studio, 5925 N Ravenswood, 5 p.m., $10 at the door or $8 for students and members
