The Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters is trying to muscle over $200,000 out of one of its former members for trying to find work. According to Chicago Union News, court documents show Nathaniel Musser, a member of Carpenter’s Local 250 out of Waukegan, obtained work at a non-signatory contractor while he was still part of the union. The Union imposed a $300,900 fine on Musser after they learned of his employment.
Musser’s lawyer contends he found a job with a non-union company because he couldn’t find one via the union. Musser appealed the fine, getting it knocked down to a little more than $200,000, but he is now filing charges of unfair labor practices against Local 250. Representatives of Local 250 have not yet commented.
