Morning Box Score: Lightning Strikes Twice for Cubs, Rain Ends Sox' Misery

The Cubs are in spoiler mode for the remainder of the season and that's exactly what they did against a Pittsburgh team that's had their number over the past two seasons. The Cubs also earned their second three-game win streak of the season by cranking out six home runs, two of them by Alfonso Soriano. Aramis Ramirez, Geovany Soto, Marlon Byrd and Tyler Colvin also participated in the power display to back Randy Wells to his third win of the season. Wells struck out seven in six innings of work.
One of the many silver linings to last night's storms is that it cut the White Sox' misery short. This was a game that started 45 minutes late and the White Sox' desire to play was probably rolled up with the tarp. By the time the game was called after a 57-minute delay, the Yankees had all the runs they needed. Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira hit two home runs, one from each side of the plate, and Phil Hughes ran his scoreless streak against the Sox to 18 innings dating back to 2009. It didn't hurt Hughes that Sox' hitters swung at a lot of junk.
