Supreme Cuts Release Fader Mix, Announce First Show

2011_supremecuts.jpg We've sort of been waiting for the right moment to write about Supreme Cuts, a local production duo hellbent on re-contextualizing the R&B palette into something a little more club-ready, a little more sultry, and a lot more bass-laden. The reason we haven't is, well, because there isn't much out there on Supreme Cuts, save for a few SoundCloud tracks, some edits, and a fantastic remix of Holy Other's "Touch". But now that they've released a mix for Fader and announced their first live show - which will be at Empty Bottle with oOoOO - we wanted to officially start buzzing on one of Chicago's best new things.

Supreme Cuts' output so far has been nothing but positively heart-wrenching, simultaneously melancholic and uplifting. After listening to a few tracks, whether they be original productions, edits, or remixes, you'll see the modus operandi: drop those vocals, deepen the drums, and drench it in reverb. And what always seems to result is something fantastic, something made for earnest headphone listening or acid-tripping on the dance floor. Their Fader mix is a good primer on what might influence Supreme Cuts' aesthetic, filled with tracks by Jamie xx, The-Dream, Jagged Edge, and even Eminem. It's sure to get you through a dragging work day.

Supreme Cuts will also play their first show at Empty Bottle on August 27, so be the first to say you saw the future of R&B.
