Readings

CHIRP Radio's latest installment of their The First Time reading series focuses on "The First High." Tonight's readers include a couple with some old Chicagoist ties - Margaret Hicks, Marcus Gilmer and host Jocelyn Geboy. If you haven't been to one of these, go. They're fun. (Beat Kitchen, 8 p.m.)

Localfest

Local First Chicago and GROW the documentary, are excited to present LocalFest at Lincoln Hall 6 p.m. tonight. The fundraiser features a screening excerpt, panel discussion, local food, arts vendors and performers and is aimed at building awareness for community supported solutions to food deserts, the impact of big box stores and developing local economies. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased at the door, or reserved in advance.

Meet the Cydermaker

Meet Henry Chevallier-Guild, Co-Owner and 8th generation cydermaker of Aspall Cydery, at Bangers & Lace (1670 W. Division St.) tonight from 5-8 p.m. Bangers & Lace will have special food pairings for the occasion with a variety of Aspall Cyders.

Music

The Ettes are an explosive trio straight out of the means streets of Nashville who love playing thrashing, crashing rock and/or roll. Their drummer is a flurry of arms and crashing cymbals while their guitarist and singer play chords off each other as if they're looking to bruise the air around them. We saw them most recently at Ribfest (?!) and are pleased to report they still play with the fury and energy we've seen them display in everything from the seediest of clubs to the stage at Lollapalooza. They roll into town to play Schubas tonight in support of their recently released album Wicked Will.
