A home repairman wound up with an ipecac weekend in a Cicero jail room after he tried to leave a job with a diamond ring he swallowed in an attempt to avoid being caught.

Wifredo Gonzalez-Cruz was doing some remodeling work Friday when the homeowner noticed her ring was missing after he took a bathroom break. The woman told her husband, who confronted and fought with Gonzalez-Cruz. Somewhere during the scuffle, Gonzalez-Cruz swallowed the ring.

Cicero police were called in, who took Gonzalez-Cruz to a hospital. X-Ray images showed the ring nestled in his stomach. He was taken to a rubber room and given medications to force him to expel the ring, which he finally did into a bedpan.

Gonzalez-Cruz was charged with felony theft and faces three years in prison if convicted. Meanwhile, we're not sure how much cleaning would be necessary to convince us to put on that ring again.
