The White Sox insist on toying with the emotions of their fans as they climbed back to the .500 mark with a rout of the Rangers. Gavin Floyd led a strong pitching effort with seven innings of three-hit, shutout ball. The Sox' bats remained hot. Alex Rios hit a two-run home run and Brent Lillibridge matched Adam Dunn's season total for homers in 200 fewer at bats. Alejandro De Aza, filling in for an ailing Carlos Quentin, drove in three runs. Quentin had an MRi on his ailing left shoulder, which showed a sprain of his AC joint. He's listed as day to day.
With Jim Hendry gone, Cubs fans are dreaming that signing Albert Pujols in the offseason may be more of a possibility. Pujols showed them what will not could be by hitting his 31st home run of the season. Yadier Molina added two shots, one of them on back-to-back home runs with Jon Jay, as the Cardinals chased Rodrigo Lopez and avoided a sweep at Wrigley Field. The loss was only the Cubs sixth in August.
