South suburban Tinley Park will play host to the GOP 2012 state convention next summer, Crain’s reports (via the Associated Press).

The convention rotates locations throughout the state, and will land at the Tinley Convention Center due to its facilities and easy highway access. Illinois Republican Party chairman Pat Brady told the AP it’s a good venue for what he predicts as a “tremendous” year for Republicans. You have to be an optimist to be an Illinois Republican.

According to WJBC, Brady told attendees at the Illinois state fair “From today going forward, I pledge to you the focus, the only focus of the Republican Party in this state, is identify voters and turn them out at the polls.”

Such a statement makes us wonder how Republican legislators (and Democrats as well) will have time to do their jobs as lawmakers. Seeing as how election season already seems in full swing even though there are more than 400 days until November 2012, it’s not surprising that 84 percent of Americans disapprove of Congress at the moment. Even though the general public’s feelings towards Congress has been pretty low for decades, the feeling that election season never really ends might be part of the reason why nothing seems to get done.
