Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi's vow to fight to the death or victory over the rebel insurgency that's beleaguered him in recent months seems closer to an end. Gaddafi fled his Tripoli headquarters after rebels ransacked his Bab al-Aziziya bastion, vowing "martyrdom" as he left his compound, which has been hit hard by both the rebels and NATO air strikes.
NATO said it would continue its bombing operations on Gaddafi loyalists, while the United Nations Security Council are scheduled to discuss a draft resolution today on releasing frozen Libyan assets, and could vote on the plan before the end of the week.
With Gaddafi's rule teetering on the brink of collapse, a Libyan in exile in Bridgeview is already making plans to return home. Dr. Fathi Fadhli told CBS 2, "the battles in other cities were, like, taking months and weeks and we expected that the battle in Tripoli would take months.
“I had no doubt that we’re gonna have victory. I had no doubt, but not that fast.”
