Morning Box Score: Cubs' Rally Not Enough, Sox Shutdown Mariners

Brewers 6, Cubs 4
One thing is for certain this season; you can't fault the Cubs for trying. Despite getting down early in the game, Ryan Dempster was rocked in the first inning by the Brewers putting his team in an early 3-0 deficit. Cubs were down 6-1 in the eighth before they rallied within 2 of their division rivals making it 6-4, but they just couldn't close the gap. The Cubs' old acronym, "Completely Useless By September," is starting to haunt them as the post-season draws near.
White Sox 3, Mairners 0
It feels good to win, just ask White Sox pitcher John Danks (6-9), who pitched his second career shutout against the Mariners last night. Danks also put in a career high strikeouts last night with 10. Danks struggled early in the season with eight consecutive losses, but has returned strong, losing only one of his last seven games. It's true, good things do come to those who are patient.
