With runs hard to come by for the White Sox, fans have been clamoring for Dayan Viciedo to be called up from AAA Charlotte. With Carlos Quentin on the DL and Adam Dunn in a season-long funk, they got their wish. Viciedo didn't disappoint, batting 2-for-3 with one of those hits being a three-run homer to right-center field that traveled close to 400 feet. Tyler Flowers added a grand slam during a six-run sixth inning as the Sox swept the Mariners and provided all the run support Gavin Floyd needed to pick up his 12th win of the season. The sweep of the Mariners also puts the White Sox in sole possession of second place in the AL Central, six games behind Detroit.
Miller Park turned into a house of horrors this weekend for the Cubs as Milwaukee is starting to put away the NL Central race. The Brewers lead in the division now stands at 10-1/2 games after their weekend sweep of the Chicago National League Ballclub. Casey Coleman went into the seventh inning for the first time this season but Brewers right fielder Corey Hart had his number. Hart hit a two-run homer and scored on a double from Ryan Braun, while Zack Greinke struck out seven over 7-2/3 innings to keep the Cubs at bay. John Axford earned his 40th save of the season for the Brewers. Tyler Colvin homered in the ninth inning for the Cubs to make the score close.
