Here they come again. The White Sox pulled to within five games of first place Detroit in the AL Central race behind a gem of a performance by Mark Buehlre and clutch hitting by Tyler Flowers. Buehrle went 7-2/3 innings and allowed only four hits as he tied Doc White on the Sox' all-time wins list with 156. Flowers drove in two runs on a sacrifice fly and a double. Dayan Viciedo provided the other run with a single in the ninth inning. Sergio Santos picked up his 27th save. The Tigers lost at home to Kansas City 9-5 last night.
Randy Wells and Tim Lincecum may have switched bodies last night at AT&T Park. Wells went the distance, surrendered two hits and struck out seven in pitching his first career shutout. The Cubs lineup backed up Wells by tagging two-time Cy Young winner Lincecum for home runs by Alfonso Soriano, Geovany Soto and Blake DeWitt. Mike Quade had Kerry Wood warming up in the bullpen in case Wells couldn't close out the ninth. But Wells said, "I felt like I was throwing the ball good enough and attacking the zone and could come away with three quick outs."
