"Wait Till Next Year" for Zambrano

Carlos Zambrano is set to come off the disqualified list Sept. 12, but the Cubs won't be welcoming him back this season. The Chicago National League Ballclub made the announcement today, saying the grievance filed on Zambrano's behalf by the players union had not been resolved and there wouldn't be enough time for Zambrano to return to game shape.

Zambrano was placed on the disqualified list Aug. 15 after he was ejected from an Aug. 12 game against the Atlanta Braves. Zambrano cleared out his locker and told clubhouse attendants he was planning to retire. Then Cubs Gm Jim Hendry called his bluff.
