Morning Box Score: Cubs Can't Hold on, Tigers Slip Past Sox

By Tim Bearden in News on Sep 4, 2011 2:15PM

Pirates 7, Cubs 5

Despite putting up a decent game, the Cubs still fell short of beating the Pirates on Saturday as former Cub Derek Lee grand slammed against Carlos Marmol in the ninth to help propel the Pirates one step closer to sweeping the Cubs this Labor Day weekend. For the Cubs, this season can't end fast enough.

Tigers 9, Sox 8

The White Sox were holding it together looking like a team, until the Tigers started rallying back from a seven run deficit in the fifth. A walk-off home run by Miguel Cabrera helped the Tigers make headlines again today as CBSSports.com is calling it "one of baseball's best comebacks of the season." The White Sox just wished there was one more inning to play on Saturday.
