DOWNLOAD THEN SEE: Finding Fiction

2011_09_Finding_Fiction.jpg The guys from Finding Fiction work fast. This Brooklyn-based indie-pop quartet formed through Craigslist in 2008 and by the next year had toured the country, dropped their debut, and begun to cause a stir among bloggers. Now a couple years and albums later, they’re still going strong and celebrating the release of a new EP, Try This At Home.

The 4-track album is a short collection of light and lovely melodies. Take, for example, opening track “Migraines & Sheep.” It starts off with a simple and steady piano beat then works in some handclaps and cymbals, followed by playful keyboard, jangly guitar, and dreamy vocals. The following tracks pretty much fall in line, but that’s not a bad thing; the EP is catchy, colorful, and certainly danceworthy - the type of thing that would be perfect for spring if spring weren’t already a fading speck in the rearview mirror.

In accordance with their DIY ethic, Finding Fiction are releasing Try This At Home for free under Creative Commons. They’re currently touring the States to spread word of the new album and will swing by Chicago Thursday night for a show at the Elbo Room. They’ll be performing in support of headliners The Sideshow Tragedy, a blues-fueled garage-rock duo from Austin, Texas. Opening will be local rockers The Shakedown.
