Escape the city this weekend and experience these wine events that are just a short drive away.

Saturday, September 10 is the Lake Geneva Wine Festival. $75 will get you a ticket to the tasting, and $100 will get you a ticket and a poster to take home. The Grand Tasting takes place from 3-6pm at the Ferro Pavilion at George Williams College of Aurora University. The festival promises culinary demonstrations and food samplings. Wine lovers who need a little nature and scenery would do well to vacate Chicago and head up to Lake Geneva on Saturday.

If Wisconsin isn’t your style, DeKalb’s Ellwood House will host its fourth annual "Wine on the Terrace" event from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. The event is a benefit fundraiser for the not-for-profit-Ellwood House Association, which preserves history about the area’s barbed wire industry.

Inboden’s of DeKalb will assist with the event, which features an array of wine and appetizers served near the Ellwood House porches and gardens. Your ticket is $50 and gives you the additional opportunity to wander through the first floor of the mansion on a self-guided tour. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 815-756-4609 or at www.ellwoodhouse.org.
